Last year, on this day, we were at IWM Duxford with Visit East Anglia, supporting their 'Friendly Invasion' launch. The 20th February 2017 marked the 75th Anniversary of General Ira Eaker, with a group of
his officers, arriving in the UK, in order to set up the United States Army Air Force units in the East of England, in support of the allies in WW2. The 487th Bombardment Group were one of these units, who were later to commence their operational flights from RAF Lavenham (Station 137) in April 1944. The 487th are commemorated in the Airmen's Bar at The Swan at Lavenham Hotel & Spa, Lavenham Tourist Information Centre, Lavenham Church, Lavenham Airfield and Lavenham Market Place. And they are now commemorated annually in Lavenham, with the next Vintage 1940s Commemorative Weekend taking place 18-21 May 2018
